Elaine G. Adevai Named Professional of the Year in Psychology

    NEW YORK, NY, May 06, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elaine G. Adevai, Executive Director of New Vista for Families, Inc., has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Psychology. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

Ms. Adevai has 30 years of professional experience, with seven years as an executive director of New Vista for Families, Inc. Each day, she is responsible for overseeing operations of the domestic violence shelter, while also supervising staff, setting up programs, managing training and advocacy services, counseling clients and maintaining contact with the community for donations. Ms. Adevai also works to arrange permanent housing for her clients. As a former victim of domestic violence, Ms. Adevai feels that she stands out from her peers because she never quits, no matter how many obstacles she must overcome. She believes that where there's a will, there's a way.

Looking back, Ms. Adevai attributes her success to her perseverance and communication skills. She became involved in her profession after gaining experience as a psychologist; she then decided to start a small shelter. The highlight of her career was starting her own independent shelter.

Ms. Adevai received a Master of Science in clinical psychology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey in 1970, and she received a Bachelor of Science in pre-medical studies from Douglass College in 1967. In addition to her degrees, she is a licensed psychologist. She is a member of the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. In 2009, she received a distinction award from the Staten Island Chapter of World of Women in 2009. In five years, Ms. Adevai hopes to expand the program to accommodate a few more families in her shelter.
