Buffalo Domestic Violence Survivor Holding "EXPOSURE Concert" for Global Awareness

Suzanne Suchan, a former victim of domestic violence, chooses to put her bad situation to good use by bringing hundreds together for a weekend of music, shopping and celebrating hope with the "EXPOSURE Concert."

BUFFALO, NY, May 10, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After exiting a 22 year violent marriage, Suzanne Suchan established Love Shouldn't Hurt, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization to aid those who are living with domestic violence or have recently been in an abusive relationship. She provides support via mentoring and services such as providing a cab ride or a supermarket gift card or clothing. She helps former victims and their families to understand the dynamics of domestic violence and to reconnect with their true selves. Suzanne helps people to reset their value system and to rebuild confidence that domestic violence shatters.

She had a dream which she documented and a year later, the first EXPOSURE Concert was held in 2010, with a live feed. It was viewed from 7 countries and 34 states.

This year marks the 7th consecutive year Suzanne has coordinated the EXPOSURE Concert: Because love shouldn't hurt. It is a free, 3-day show featuring over 40 bands, on 2 stages and live streaming around the world, to "expose" domestic violence.

On Saturday the 25th, Small Business Saturday will run from 2-6pm, featuring over 30 local merchants from "Love the Buff," Buffalo-themed jewelry and decorations to Young Living Essential Oils to Nick's Spider Venom hot sauce.

Vanity Violence, an organization 'devoted to using performing art and lyrical dialogue to reduce the epidemic of domestic violence,' will be hosting a mini-dream board activity table and performing on the patio stage Sunday.

The EXPOSURE Concert will take place at The Cove Seafood and Banquets, 4701 Transit Road in Depew, where it has been held for the last 6 of its 7 years.

A popular Buffalo rock band from the mid-80s, Sentinel, will be reuniting for the first time since then, performing Saturday at 6pm.

A special drive will take place to benefit Child and Family Services, which among other services, provides emergency shelter and services to men and women, something that Suzanne felt was a must. "There aren't enough services out there for men. I spent time interviewing agencies to find one that provided help for men too, because 1 in 6 men have been a victim of domestic violence. This is not just a women-victim problem." Items on their wish list include new socks and underwear, zip lock bags, baby food and bath towels.

Additionally, there will be a used cell phone drive for Verizon's Hopeline program, which "connects survivors of domestic violence to vital resources, funds organizations nationwide and protects the environment."

Concert Tshirts will be available for purchase, with a complete band listing on the back, supplied by T2 Tees.

The EXPOSURE Concert is free to attend, will have basket raffles and games for prizes, and is open to all ages until 9pm. After 9pm it will be strictly 21+.

Some of the larger raffle items include an Ibanez electric guitar, the Drummer's Delight package from Regal Tip, and a birthday party at Oogie Games. Yorkville Sound and Allentown Music are supplying the backline.

The full schedule and complete list of businesses participating in Small Business Saturday can be seen at www.LoveShouldntHurt.org.

Concert times are:
Friday June 24 7pm-1am

"This show is to send a message to everyone, that nobody needs to stay under the power and control of another. I stand today as living testimony that you can have an awesome life outside of the confines of abuse. I took back my maiden name last year, Suchan, pronounced Sue-Can! If Sue can, you can too! Take your life back and love yourself again! Love shouldn't hurt!"

Love Shouldn't Hurt Inc is an ally of No More, a 'campaign to raise public awareness and engage bystanders around ending domestic violence and sexual assault.'
