Born to educators, Jo Anne W. Norris knew she would also be a teacher one day. She earned a bachelor's degree in communicative disorders from West Chester State College (now West Chester University) and a master's degree in school counseling from the University of Delaware. She is a licensed professional counselor, certified elementary school counselor, national certified counselor and a national certified school counselor, and she is one dissertation away from earning an Ed.D. in Pupil Services Leadership from Widener University.

As a woman in today's world, Ms. Norris feels that hard work has contributed to her success. Throughout her career, she has faced many challenges where she had to work harder. The advice she would give to the younger generation of women entering the workforce is to be prepared with skills needed for the area in which you are going to work. One must also be prepared with soft skills, such as time management, conflict resolution, and decision-making. Her father has inspired her as he taught her to be tolerant, grateful and patient.

Ms. Norris is a member of the PA School Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Kappa Delta Pi, and the National Board of Certified Counselors. Looking ahead, she would like to write a book about her experiences as a school counselor who has worked with at-risk students.
