O'Connor Marketing Agrees That Entrepreneurship Should Begin in High School

After the CEDA revealed that the advancement in technology could result in 5 million job losses, O'Connor Marketing are calling for entrepreneurship education to be taught in high school in order to increase young people's career prospects.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, September 12, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A report from The Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) revealed that advances in computer technology and automation would result in around five million job losses in the coming 10 to 15 years. With automation threatening the careers of thousands of people across Australia, job prospects for young people are changing and there is a growing fear that education may no longer be adequately preparing young people for the working world of the future.

O'Connor Marketing, an innovative and forward thinking sales and marketing firm, believe that these findings and the changing business landscape means that Australia must take action to ensure young people have the skills for professional success. The firm believes this goes beyond teaching greater technology and I.T skills, but requires schools to incentivise innovation and inspire creative thinking among young people. The pace of innovation has been unprecedented in the last 20 years and shows no sign of slowing. O'Connor Marketing believe that to give young people the best possible chance of future success Australia must start teaching entrepreneurial skills in high school.

The firm are adamant that entrepreneurial skills are a great basis for professional success, even for those without an interest in starting a business. Entrepreneurial skills such as problem solving, time management, creative thinking and risk taking can be transferred to almost any industry and are hugely in demand in the jobs market. By learning the foundations of entrepreneurship young people will be able to seek out better opportunities when it comes to entering the working world and gain a competitive edge.

In light of the CEDA report, serial entrepreneur Jo Burston spoke to the Huffington post about a new entrepreneurship program called startup.business, which teaches year 9 and 10 students which how to think like an entrepreneur - giving them marketing, business and pitching skills - resulting in a fully formed business plan. This new 20 week long initiative doesn't focus on a pass or fail model, and instead rewards creativity and teaches young people that it is okay to try new things, and if these things don't work then they are encouraged to go back to the drawing board and think about new ways to approach the problems they face.

O'Connor Marketing is praising this new initiative and believes that the real world business experience it can provide to young people is invaluable. The firm are confident that by teaching young people to innovate, Australia will be able to produce a generation of forward thinking problem solvers - capable of overcoming the challenges of the changing business world.

O'Connor Marketing specialises in creative campaigns that build a direct and personal link to customers, and deliver a high return on investment and long-term growth for their clients. Working predominantly with aspiring young business owners the firm is keen to encourage these individuals to develop the skills needed to thrive in an innovative business world, and regularly hold workshops and events to help these individuals access the support and motivation they need to achieve long term success.
