ROCK TAVERN, NY October 10, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maria A. Audin, President of Archaeology and Historical Research Services, LLC, has been recognized with an Excellence Award as a Distinguished Professional in her field through Women of Distinction Magazine. Maria A. Audin will be featured in an upcoming edition of Women of Edition in 2016/2017.
Graduating from college and initially becoming a teacher, Maria A. Audin worked in a Catholic school for a few years before deciding that she wanted to try something different. Becoming a Technical Administrator for a computer graphic company, she found herself back in education, this time working for Huntington Learning Center as a Managing Direct turned Coordinator for their corporate office. Applying to Langan Engineering as an IT Assistant thereafter, she landed the role and remained in position for five years. Making the decision to go back to school to further her own education, Audin studied Historic Preservation, graduating with her Master's Degree.
"In 2006 I made the decision that I wanted to pursue a career that would enable me to incorporate what I'd learned during my life and career, as well as do something I enjoyed," Audin said. "Going back to college at 41 to work toward my master's came with its challenges, but I never let fear take over. I was determined to do what I loved, and that was historic preservation."
Today, Audin is the proud President of Archaeology and Historical Research Services, LLC (AHRS), located in Rock Tavern, New York. The business provides a full range of affordable, high-quality cultural resource services in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region, offering regulatory compliance and coordination, historic documentary research, historic interpretive displays, historic and architectural surveys, national register nominations, reservation planning, archaeological surveys and mitigation, cemetery identification, documentation, and relocation, human remains, grave marker, and osteological analysis, artifact analysis, and geophysical survey and mapping services. Working alongside clients, regulators, and site managers to create a plan to manage risk, while optimizing project schedules, Audin and her team are dedicated to professional qualification standards of all cultural resource work and mitigation.
"When most people think of a historical preservationist, they have this preconceived idea that they are there to save everything," Audin added. "Although that may be true for some individuals, I'm a realist; not everything is going to be saved. However, if I can document what must be lost, then it isn't gone from our history, instead it is preserved for those who may want to learn about our collective past."
In addition to running her Woman Owned Business, Audin is actively involved with the Association for Preservation Technology's Technical Committee as their Business Director. There, she works on funding for an Online Tool for Historic Preservation, Sustainability, and Resiliency, aka OSCAR. She's also written an article in the American Cultural Resource Association Edition, Volume 20-3, Summer 2014, entitled 'Exploring the Viability of Franchising in the CRM Services Industry'. She holds a BA in Communication from William Patterson University, a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Elementary Education, also from William Patterson University, a Master's in Historic Preservation from Goucher College, became OSHA 10-Hour Construction Certified for New York City, and completed the Cultural Resource Essentials Series through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
