Jackson Design and Remodeling Wins Three Regional CotY Awards

Wins Come in the Highly Competitive Kitchen, Bath and Detached Structure Categories; Projects Now Advance to Nationals

SAN DIEGO, CA, February 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- San Diego-based Jackson Design & Remodeling (JDR) today announced the company has won three 2017 Southwest Regional Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). The winning projects include a creative modern farmhouse kitchen, a bathroom with unconventional color and a Sicilian-inspired detached cabana. Contractors from seven regions around the country vie for CotY Awards each year. JDR's CotY wins are for the Southwest region of the U.S.

As the first major industry awards program of the year, the CotYs are a predictor of the projects across the nation that will be gracing winner's podiums over the course of the year. In the past, JDR's CotY winning projects have gone on to also earn NKBA, ASID, Chrysalis, HGTV and Master Design awards.

All regional winners automatically advance to the national CotY awards, which will be announced at NARI's annual "Evening of Excellence" reception April 7 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

"The diverse styles of these winning projects represent the talent of our incredible design team," said JDR CEO Todd Jackson. "To have our work recognized by our industry peers is gratifying for our entire team. We work diligently not only to deliver quality projects, but to create stunning rooms that reflect each client's unique style."

JDR's three winning projects include:

Residential Kitchen $60,001 to $100,000:
Designer: Alison Green, Senior Interior Designer, AKBD, Allied ASID
Residential Designer: David Hall
Design Assistant: Hana Jarrar

For a couple with children in college, the idea for this appealing space with creative style started with the husband's desire to give his wife the kitchen of her dreams. The wife loves to cook and had for years "made do" with a small kitchen that presented significant challenges for storage, counter space and navigation. The first significant design decision was to move the kitchen from its existing place in the floor plan to the front of the home, replacing a formal living room the clients rarely used. This allowed for an expansive open layout. In the new kitchen, white cabinetry is balanced with quartzite countertops in a satin finish, mixed metals and natural woods. A rustic barn door, pendant lighting with an industrial flair, and an apron front sink add farmhouse spirit. The flooring, designed in three colors and placed in an unexpected hexagon pattern, is a creative foundation for the space. A large island with maple beadboard is a substantial centerpiece.

Residential Bath Over $100,000:
Designer: Sol Quintana Wagoner, Senior Interior Designer, Allied ASID, CGP
Residential Designer: Arnold Garza
Interior Stylist: Karina Kmiotek

A young professional woman with a love of bright colors and unconventional ideas wanted to transform the bland bathroom in her home into a compelling and vibrant space. This refreshingly individual master bathroom was inspired by the home's location near the beach and by a favorite painting of the client's, "Francesca," which now hangs on a wall in the room, establishing the visual vocabulary for the space. This dramatic design started with the decision to build a curved wall in sparkling tile with intricate bohemian texture in shades of blue, anchoring an eye-catching free-standing tub in chartreuse. This rejuvenating space imaginatively expands on the traditional feeling of a bathroom and invites a relaxed appreciation of endlessly interesting surroundings.

Residential Detached Structure
Designer: Tatiana Machado-Rosas, Senior Interior Designer, CKD, CBD, Allied ASID, CAPS, CGP
Residential Designer: John Kavan
Design Assistant: Priscilla Jimenez
Interior Stylist: Karina Kmiotek

This project featured a detached addition to a La Jolla home incorporating an indoor kitchen with separate catering kitchen, wine bar, his and her bathrooms, as well as an outdoor kitchen with seating areas, a green house and other amenities. Designed for a homeowner with Sicilian roots who enjoys hosting large gatherings, the space was inspired by a Sicilian villa. Materials in the kitchen include stacked stone, textured woods and hand painted tiles. Outdoors, a hand painted mural is the backdrop for a fire pit and pergola, which sits next to a walking garden, capturing the essence of Sicilian villa living.

An impartial panel of judges, who are experts within the industry and associated fields, selected the 2017 winners based on each entrant's "before and after" photography as well as a detailed project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty and entry presentation.
