Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Presents Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille in Concert, Saturday March 11 at 3pm in Miller Auditorium

Ratatouille in Concert is the second movie in the KSO's three year exclusive partnership with Disney.



    KALAMAZOO, MI, March 01, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the second concert in their three-year exclusive partnership with Disney - Disney-Pixar's Ratatouille in concert. Families are invited to join the KSO as they present this Academy Award Winning film in high-definition on the big screen while the beloved score, by composer Michael Giacchino, is performed live by symphony musicians under the direction of Maestro Raymond Harvey.

This season's KSO@The Movies! concert will be presented at 3pm to accommodate families with younger children and tickets are only $10. Complimentary popcorn from Pop-City Popcorn will be provided by KSO, while supplies last. The orchestra partners with several local organizations to showcase young local musicians and ensembles prior to most of their concerts. The concert will feature a Student Performer Showcase comprised of 80 students from the Kalamazoo Kids In Tune program at Woods Lake Elementary. This performance will begin at 2:15 in the Grand Tier Lobby for patrons.


ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Raymond Harvey
For more than 35 years, Raymond Harvey has made a significant impact as an American conductor of great skill and insight. Born in New York City, he studied piano and conducting, receiving Bachelor's and Master's degrees in choral conducting from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music; and then studied orchestral conducting at the Yale School of Music, earning Master's and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.

This season Maestro Harvey celebrates 18 years as Music Director of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. He previously held the top post at the Fresno Philharmonic (California), Springfield Symphony (Massachusetts), and El Paso Opera (Texas).

Maestro Harvey has appeared as guest conductor with many of America's leading orchestras, including those of Philadelphia, Atlanta, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Detroit, New Orleans and Minnesota, as well as the New York Philharmonic's Young People's Concerts and the Boston Pops. He has also had engagements with the Maggio Musicale Orchestra of Florence, Italy, the Pusan Symphony of South Korea, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica. He regularly performs as a pianist, both in chamber music and as pianist/conductor in works of Gershwin, Mozart, and Rachmaninoff.

In addition to his commitment to Kalamazoo, Dr. Harvey has been named an Associate Professor at the University of Houston, where he serves as Music Director of the Moores School of Music opera department. His operatic repertoire is extensive, including favorites such as Carmen, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Turandot, and Aida; as well as the more rarely performed The Consul, The Rape of Lucretia, and Samson and Delilah.

The Kalamazoo community continues to embrace Raymond Harvey through appreciation of his compelling performances and engaging lectures.

Michael Giacchino

Michael Giacchino is a prolific and award-winning composer whose work spans the entertainment spectrum.

Giacchino studied at the Julliard School and UCLA before beginning his career as a game score composer for Jurassic Park and the Medal of Honor and Call of Duty series. Since branching into television, he has composed for such shows as Alias, LOST , for which he earned an Emmy, and Fringe. In 2004, he scored his first feature film, The Incredibles, launching a collaboration with Pixar that would result in the scores for Ratatouille, UP, for which he won an Academy Award, Cars 2 and Inside Out.

Giacchino's other film work includes Tomorrowland, Sky High, Super 8, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III, and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. In 2005, he collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to create the new soundtrack for Disneyland's Space Mountain and in 2009, he was invited to conduct the 81st Academy Awards orchestra.
