PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 13, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Greg Ippolito, president and creative director at the digital marketing agency IMA, will be presenting a seminar titled "The Dark Side of Technology" as part of Philly Tech Week 2017. The event will take place at MakeOffices, 2001 Market Street, #2500, Philadelphia, PA 19103, on May 4, 2017, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Philly Tech Week, now in its seventh year, is described as "a week-long celebration of technology and innovation." Yet Ippolito felt the need to provide a counterweight to the festivities.
"We don't want to ruin the party," says Ippolito. "But it's important that, as citizens and human beings, we take a moment to examine the broader picture. Consumer technologies have weaved their way into the fabric of our existence, and have brought with them some frightening side-effects. Graduation rates are down, instances of depression and anxiety are up, and social unrest is growing to degree we haven't seen since the 1960s. Something is going on here."
During this seminar, Ippolito will explore key questions including:
• As a culture, are we too accepting/trusting of new technologies?
• Has the expansion of tech unintentionally limited our freedom and happiness?
• As a rule, are new technologies benevolent, malevolent, or indifferent?
• How much does profit-motive affect what kinds of new technologies are created?
Dock Street Spirits will co-sponsor the event, providing attendees with complimentary Vicio artisanal mezcal and custom-brewed beers (to be selected).
