Marijuana Fatal Crashes Killed More than 3,000 Persons in 2015 with 1,000+ Innocent Victims. No Medical Drug in History of the U.S. has been Responsible for as Many Deaths and is Still Distributed

With 17% of the fatal crashes involving a marijuana driver it will soon equal DUI as the No.1 killer. Recreational Marijuana states are at 22%, Medical states, 19%, & No Use states, 16%. 13 states already higher use than Recreational states.



No medical drug in the history of the country has been responsible for as many deaths and is still being prescribed, used, and abused.

1. Marijuana fatal crashes killed more than 3,000 persons in 2015. 1,000+ were innocent victims in the fatal crash. Deaths and injuries not traffic related add to the consequences of marijuana use.
2. With 17% of the fatal crashes involving a marijuana driver it will soon equal DUI as the No.1 killer. Recreational Mj states at 21.7%, Med Mj states at 18,5%, & No Use states at 15.6%.
9 Med Mj states and 4 No Use states have higher % of Mj drivers than the Rec. Use states.
3. Marijuana is the No. 1 drug found in fatal crashes, more than narcotics, depressants, and stimulants.
4. Marijuana potency is much higher than 20 years ago with a high obtained in less than 5 minutes.
5. About 40% of Marijuana drivers were also DUI.
6. Marijuana fatal crashes peak during rush hours, 4-8pm vs. DUI crashes peak 10 pm-2am.
7. Marijuana drivers in fatal crashes are about 6 years younger than DUI drivers.
8. Marijuana drivers in fatal crashes are prone to speed and not use safety belts.
9. 30% of marijuana drivers had passengers who could have intervened.
10. Only 40% of drivers were tested for drugs. If only 5% of not tested were marijuana we would have 1,500 more deaths.

Al Crancer, B.S. M.A., is a retired researcher having been the head of a research group that completed the first marijuana study in the US with government marijuana and approval. The research results were published in Science, 1969. Notable results from that study was the inability of marijuana subjects to monitor driving simulator speed. He continues to do research on the impact of marijuana in fatal crashes using data available from the US Dept. of Transportation, FARS Data system.
