Marking the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, the controversial award-winning documentary "Who Killed Martin Luther King?" is released on DVD for the first time in the U.S. The film features rare jailhouse interviews with the late James Earl Ray.
/24-7PressRelease/ - April 05, 2008 - On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the revered civil rights leader, New York City-based Clarendon Entertainment, Inc. ("CEI") today announced the release of "Who Killed Martin Luther King?" on DVD. The documentary, an investigative piece on the assassination of the civil rights leader, premiered on the A&E network in 1990 and won a Cable Ace Award a year later. This is the first time the film will be available on DVD in the United States.
Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker John Edginton, the film chronicles the events leading up to the assassintion and its aftermath. It features rare jailhouse interviews with James Earl Ray as well as commentary from Martin Luther King III, former Congressman Louis Stokes (who chaired the House Select Committee on Assassinations that investigated the assassination), former Ray lawyer Dr. Bill Pepper and a number of individuals who were formerly members of U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies that were purportedly involved. The film dissects the case planned by the prosecution, analyzes its evidence, including ballistics results, and reviews several possible conspiracy angles.
"This documentary is unusual in that it offers extensive commentary from many key participants who are no longer alive," says CEI chief executive Roderick Giles, "Because of the rare interview footage, this DVD provides the viewer a look into this historical event like no other documented source."
The "Who Killed Martin Luther King?" DVD is among a few media pieces premiering this week that will mark this historical event.
"I have never seen a historical event that has so many viewpoints that are both valid and at the same time contradicting," says Giles. "My hope is that this DVD and the 40th Anniversary will inspire a new generation to take up the quest for truth, justice and closure in this case."
