LOS ANGELES, CA, May 03, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Center and FoodCycle LA are pleased to announce The Strokes benefit concert May 13, 2019 at The Wiltern. The band is partnering with both organizations for a second time to raise money to help people experiencing homelessness. Proceeds will further expand FoodCycle LA and The Center's reach as a #CommunityCreatingChange. Both organizations intention is to create a new LA by connecting excess food and empowering people in need. FoodCycle and The Center share a commitment to helping people tap into a mindset of collaboration and community and using that power to solve the most pressing issues facing Los Angeles – homelessness, hunger, and climate change. The non-profits have released the following statements: The Center: "Having the opportunity to partner with a world-renowned band like The Strokes is an amazing testament to the work we do at The Center, of ending isolation and homelessness in Hollywood. We couldn't be more excited!" states Nathan Sheets, The Center's Executive Director. FoodCycle LA: "We are so grateful that The Strokes are again supporting the work that we're doing. The last concert was incredibly impactful for our organization and allowed us to expand exponentially," states Nancy Beyda, FoodCycle LA Executive Director.

The non-profits have launched a joint giveaway in conjunction with the concert. To join in and become a part of a #CommunityCreatingChange follow both @FoodCycleLA and @centerinhollywood on Instagram for a chance to win 2 tickets and exclusive limited-edition concert t-shirts.

About FoodCycleLA: FoodCycle LA picks up excess food that would otherwise be wasted by grocery stores, restaurants, offices, and farmers markets and delivers it to organizations that serve the over one and a half million food insecure Angelenos. They recently launched an app powered by ChowMatch which matches food donations with shelters and relies on volunteers to pick up and deliver donations. "This is in alignment with our core values of community and service. We believe that people want to do good and sometimes don't know how. FoodCycle LA is committed to helping them find a way to make an impact – whether they are The Strokes or other artists, or just someone who has half an hour to spare," stated Nancy Beyda, FoodCycle LA Executive Director. The organization raises awareness about food waste and the negative impact that it has on the environment – food thrown into landfills releases methane gas and is a major contributor to climate change, and producing it wastes valuable resources, like water, fertilizer, and the land used to grow food. FoodCycle LA educates businesses about ways to reduce food waste and how to make sure food they don't use goes to feed people that need it. One-quarter of all wasted food could feed the 795 million hungry people around the world. About The Center: Located at 6636 Selma Ave, on the campus of Blessed Sacrament, The Center's mission is to end isolation and homelessness in Hollywood. "Many of the individuals we welcome into the Center come to us without any community of their own – and so we work every day to provide that safe space so that people can once again have a sense of belonging to The Center, and to each other," states Nathan Sheets, The Center's Executive Director. This is done by connecting people to housing, offering evidence-based wellness programs, and building community. Through clinically proven wellness models, The Center focuses on holistic wellbeing and comprehensive health as part of its Community Wellness Program. Individuals also may access health, mental healthcare, and housing. The Center connects and enrolls clients into services both in-house and in the greater Los Angeles community. Four years ago, The Center also began managing government contracts and currently manages contracts for Rapid Rehousing, The Coordinated Entry System, an integrated outreach team through Measure H, and is providing staff for the Hollywood Bridge Housing. They have been recognized as a model program for integrated services by the Department of Mental Health, CES, and LAHSA. Los Angeles is a city with tremendous resources and wealth, alongside extreme poverty and hunger. Many people have a desire to make things better but wonder what one person can do. FoodCycle and The Center share a commitment to helping people tap into a mindset of collaboration and community and using that power to solve the most pressing issues facing Los Angeles – homelessness, hunger, and climate change. They know that giving people the opportunity to help change things benefits them as much as the ones they serve. They are launching a movement to help people understand how they can be involved and make a positive impact. When we lift one person up – we lift up the entire community.
