Marvin Hamlisch's closest friends lend their own star power to help launch the November 18th inaugural Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards
NEW YORK, NY, October 17, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A prestigious roster of pre-eminent composer Marvin Hamlisch's closest friends will lend their own star power to help launch the November 18th inaugural Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards, a collaboration with Mr. Hamlisch's alma mater, Queens College. The all-star line-up of those presenting competition awards include lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, Yankees' legendary General Manager Joe Torre, composer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Shaffer, Broadway actor and musician, Brian d'Arcy James, comedian, singer and actor Robert Klein, and Broadway actress and singer Marissa McGowan.
The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards have been established to honor one of America's most decorated composers and to enable the next generation of music composition talent. The awards ceremony and concert will be held at the Lefrak Concert Hall of the Kupferberg Center for the Arts on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 7 pm. Composers from around the world are eligible and encouraged to compete, by registering online for the 2020 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards. Registration opens on November 18, 2019 at https://hamlischawards.org/awards. The categories for the 2020 composition awards are: Musical Theatre, Film/Media Scoring, Classical, and Jazz Composition.

The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards is a New York State registered charitable not-for-profit corporation, governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees with a 25-member Honorary Board of Trustees, comprised of members who were all close personal friends and colleagues of Mr. Hamlisch. The mission of the organization is to foster and champion a new generation of composers through an international music competition with the vision of recognizing talent and building a community of young composers worldwide.
