Media Project Amplifies Voices of Young Women on Gender-based Violence in Kazakhstan

    NEW YORK, NY, January 28, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Footage Foundation (Footage) brings Girl-talk-Girl, an award-winning program and the largest digital platform for young women's voices on gender-based violence (GBV), to Almaty, Kazakhstan this February. In partnership with local organization Rodnik and supported and sponsored by the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Kazakhstan, Girl-talk-Girl will engage young women university students in digital storytelling on GBV, growing its network of grassroots storytellers, already with representation from the U.S, Russia, Ukraine, and Chile.

According to UN Women, 17% of ever-partnered women aged 18–75 in Kazakhstan have experienced physical and/or sexual violence within an intimate relationship. 21% have experienced psychological abuse. Through Girl-talk-Girl, young women in Almaty will use the program's mobile application to share their stories with one another and across countries, exploring both unique and common experiences of the GBV that is ever-present in the lives of young women globally.
