ATLANTA, GA, March 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 2020 Georgia Legal Food Frenzy kicks off April 20 and runs through May 1. This two week food and fund drive competition is in partnership with the Georgia Attorney General, the State Bar of Georgia, the Young Lawyers Division and the Georgia Food Bank Association. The competition is open to anyone in the legal community - judges, legal organizations, sole proprietors, small, medium and large size law firms, as well as in-house corporate counsel. All teams compete in several special categories, and all food and funds raised will stay local and benefit the regional food bank that serves your community.
Currently one in five children in Georgia lives in a food insecure household. While nearly 63% of Georgia's public school students are eligible for either a free or reduced breakfast or lunch each day, only 17% have access to the lunch program during the summer. The competition is timed to help the food banks move into summer prepared and well-stocked to meet the increased demand for food from working families.
"The Georgia Legal Food Frenzy is an incredible cause, and every year I see increased engagement and passion from lawyers across the state," said Attorney General Carr. "Last year, we instituted the Billable Hour Challenge, because we know time is a lawyer's most valuable asset. For this reason, I challenged each lawyer across the state to donate the equivalent of one billable hour during the competition, and we were blown away by those who stepped up to complete the challenge."
The food and fund drive results are determined via a scoring system, $1=4 points, and 1 pound of food=1 point. There are also bonus point opportunities available through volunteering, posting about the competition on social media, delivering your donations to your regional food bank and more.
Participants may now earn an additional 100 bonus points if registered by April 1st by visiting: http://galegalfoodfrenzy.org/sign-up/.
The 2019 Atlanta area winners were: Joe S. Habachy, P.C. Attorney at Law, Page Perry, Attorney Justin Oliverio LLC, Squire Patton Boggs, BakerHostetler, King & Spalding, Serta Simmons Bedding, LLC, Georgia Tech Office of Legal Affairs, Troutman Sanders.
This year Atlanta's legal community aims to raise $325,000 for local hunger relief, enough to provide food for 1,300,000 meals.
About the Atlanta Food Community Bank
The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day, including children, seniors and working families. Through more than 700 nonprofit partners, we help more than 755,000 people get healthy food every year. Our goal is that, all hungry people across metro Atlanta and North Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. Join us at ACFB.org.
