NEW YORK, NY, September 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While New York is erupting in unrest over the mismanagement in NYS, we cannot forget the most vulnerable who are still suffering and isolated from their families. Since the COVID-19 shutdowns began in March, families have been kept from visiting loved ones for almost six months.
More importantly, there are still many families unable to have funerals for their parents and grandparents due to the continued restrictions of the number of people who can attend. It is absolutely vital that our government come up with a solution that empowers seniors and families to be safe, respect those who have passed, and remain united in our fight against COVID-19 and its byproducts. Commenting on the issue, co-founder of Voices for Seniors Vivian Zayas said: "We owe a duty to the seniors today, as they were our caregivers yesterday. We call on Gov. Cuomo to do more to protect our seniors and announce a plan for the future that is actionable and effective."
Vivian Zayas and Alexa Rivera, who lost their mother Ana Martinez in April, are founders of the Facebook group VoicesForSeniors. They are advocating for families suffering due to the loss of a senior in a nursing home or other long-term care facility, as well as against neglect, abuse, and the effects of isolation on our vulnerable elderly population.
