Haltom United Business Alliance Urges Haltom City Council to Open Economic Development Boards to Haltom City Business Owners Who Live in Tarrant County

    HALTOM CITY, TX, March 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Haltom United Business Alliance (HUBA) would like to see Haltom City take proactive steps to create a relationship with its business community, communicate and collaborate with them, and — as was recently done in neighboring Kennedale — add them as non-voting members to its Economic Development committees to use the brain power associated with its land and business owners who live in other parts of Tarrant County.

As part of Kennedale's efforts to increase transparency and promote economic development, Councilperson Jan Joplin (Place 2) proposed a resolution to amend the corporation's bylaws to create two new members of the board. The resolution was passed by the City Council in November 2021, and the additions will bring the total membership of the Economic Development Corporation's board to nine. The two new non-voting members must own a business or property in Kennedale and must reside in Tarrant County. "There are people who own businesses here that don't live here that want to serve and have ideas to contribute to our effort to attract more new small businesses to our community and to help existing businesses grow and thrive," said Joplin.

The Haltom United Business Alliance would like to see similar steps taken in Haltom City. HUBA has long held that creative strategies and a transparent process are needed in Haltom City to foster economic development and benefit residents and business owners alike.

Said HUBA member Ron Sturgeon, "A lot of Haltom City business owners live in other places and making a move like Kennedale has done is a great way to tap into their ideas and insights to attract more small businesses to Haltom City," said Sturgeon. Such an initiative would have zero downside for the city because the members can't vote, he added.
