HARTFORD, CT, April 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to HRSA (Organdonor.gov), the current organ donation statistics are shocking to say the least. There are currently over 100K men, women, and children on the national waiting list in the United States today. 17 people die every single day waiting for an organ transplant. In addition, there were 40K transplants performed in 2021 along with the highest numbers for those waiting lists needing kidney transplants. John Hoffman, author of LIVEr – My Journey of Transplant Survival, shares his story not only to inspire but bring awareness during Organ Donation Awareness Month as every organ donor can save 8 lives and enhance 75 more.
"Born with the rare liver disease biliary atresia, my only hope for survival was the untimely death of another young child, and the success of a very experimental surgery," said John Hoffman, author, LIVEr – My Journey of Transplant Survival. "I wrote this book not only for myself, but for those like me, who have been honored to be organ recipients."
Born with the rare liver disease biliary atresia, John Hoffman's only hope for survival was the untimely death of another young child, along with the success of a very experimental surgery. With the outcome never certain, his parents remained steadfast in the belief that he would get through this and live a long and healthy life. After receiving his second transplant, and third chance at life, John Hoffman was bound and determined to make it mean something. Depression marked a large portion of his late teens and early twenties, as he began to attempt to make his way as an adult. One thought continued to gnaw at him, two people have lost their lives to get him to this point and what did he have to show for it? Years later John Hoffman found his direction and that he needed to share his story and help others going down this same path.
In addition to the touching Forward in LIVEr – My Journey of Transplant Survival, by Jeffrey S. Hyams, MD here are what readers are saying:

About John Hoffman
John Hoffman, author of LIVEr – My Journey of Transplant Survival is a two-time liver transplant recipient. He was diagnosed with biliary atresia as a baby and received a transplant at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on January 14, 1983, when he was just 13 months old, by the great Thomas Starzl. Due to the experimental nature of John Hoffman's first transplant, and his small size, it became a possibility in his teens that he would need a second transplant. John Hoffman was put on the list again at age 15, and received a second transplant on July 1, 1999, once again at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He now lives in Connecticut with his wife and three kids. In his spare time, John Hoffman enjoys chasing the kids around outside, eating out at restaurants, and travelling.
