AUSTIN, TX, April 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Author W. Michael Murray has received accolades from numerous former military personnel receiving praise for his first published work, A Week in Vietnam (AWIV), which portrays the real-life experience for those stationed in Vietnam during the 70's. After much anticipation for the release of the second book in this trilogy, of Journey Home picks up where AWIV ends. There are several themes the author wanted to deal with in these books. The first, of course, is he journeys that we all undertake in our lives and how our lives are changed by those journeys. But secondly, and possibly equally important, is author Michael Murray's desire to write about the early 70s and how it profoundly changed the lives of those of us who lived through those times.
Much of what hero Jeff Powell experiences in Journey Home, were things author Michael Murray experienced. He was in the Navy Supply Corps stationed in Guam during the early 70s. Author Michael Murray did travel to Vietnam and did process off active duty in San Francisco. However, what main character Jeff Powell experiences and what the author actually experienced diverge there. Many of the characters in the book have their basis in people author Michael Murray personally knows (or knew), but the characters he describes are very different from the individual on which they were based.
.
What exactly is the underlying story of Journey Home? The book begins in 1973. It was a very confusing and disjointed time in American history. In this very much anticipated follow up novel, Jeff Powell, the hero in this book, is leaving the Vietnam War behind and is returning home to Texas. But even though he is not aware of it, that is not the real journey that he's on. His journey began long before he went to the Pacific. He had his life planned out. He planned to return to Texas, start a job, and begin law school the next Fall, and upon graduation become a lawyer. The challenge he faces is that because of the changes he has undergone while in the Pacific, he is no longer sure that he is on the right path. Most heroes are guided along their journeys by people they meet along the path. On the journey, he meets a wide cast of characters who all, directly or indirectly, have an influence on his final decision. But it is the coincidences that finally lead to a conclusion.
