LAS VEGAS, NV, June 30, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This week marks the official rerelease of David E. Stanley 's extraordinary film 'PROTECTING THE KING'. First released in 2007, 'PROTECTING THE KING' is the personal story of his life on the road with his stepbrother Elvis Presley during the last five self-destructive years of the King's life. "This film is not the Elvis Presley story," says Stanley, who spent seventeen years living, growing up, and working with Elvis from 1960 to his untimely death in 1977. "That story is beautifully told in the recently released multi-million-dollar budget film ELVIS, directed by Baz Luhrmann," Stanley adds.
Written and directed by Stanley, 'PROTECTING THE KING' is an independent film that follows David's life as a personal aide and bodyguard to his beloved big brother, "a true story of brotherly love". The film does not focus on high collars, side burns and hound dogs but rather on the struggles that Elvis and David both incurred during the final five years of the King's life. During those years, Elvis's prescription drug use went from use, to massive abuse. David, who is only sixteen when he went to work for Elvis, finds himself deeply concerned at the abuse he finds his big brother bestowing upon himself. David makes multiple attempts to intervene in Elvis's abuse, but to no avail. He eventually discovers that he could protect the King from everything except the King Himself. In the end, David is unable to save his beloved brother's life.
