ATLANTA, GA, October 05, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and Feeding Georgia are pleased to announce that the 9th Annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight raised a grand total of $372,907.79 – the equivalent of 1,491,631 meals.
This year, over 70 accounting firms and industry accounting departments representing over 66,394 members of the industry virtually competed in the annual Accounting Food Fight from August 8-19.
Anna Abernathy LLC won the honor of Grand Prize Food Fight Hero, raising $8,000 and earning the most points per employee statewide. The Grand Prize Hunger Champion Winner was Nichols, Cauley and Associates, raising $60,266.73 with the most statewide points overall. The Accounting Food Fight is timed each year to restock the food banks after the summer surge they experience due to the conclusion of the school year (and school lunch assistance programs). During the friendly two-week competition, accounting professionals compete to raise funds for nine food banks across the state. All funds raised by each team stay local and benefit the food bank that serves its community.
"Each year of The Georgia Accounting Food Fight, we come together as a profession to serve the communities we live in and show our dedication to the people within them," said Boyd E. Search, CAE, President & CEO of The Georgia Society of CPAs. "We are incredibly proud of the goal-shattering numbers our members made possible this year. CPAs raised a record-breaking total of $372,907, with a massive push bringing in $80,536 in the closing twenty-four hours."
In addition to the summer surge, Georgia's food banks have responded to an increased need of 30% since pandemic relief assistance programs have ended and inflation has continued to rise. Right now, 1 in 8 Georgians and 1 in 6 children are experiencing food insecurity, meaning they may not know when their next meal may be. Fundraisers like the Georgia Accounting Food Fight are more crucial than ever.
"Thank you to the Georgia Society of CPAs, every participating organization, and the passionate individuals who made the 9th Annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight a success. We cannot expect our children to learn, thrive, and become our future innovators on an empty stomach, and we are thrilled that the accounting industry agrees. Their leadership and commitment to our mission have a heavy impact on the families and children served by our food banks." Danah Craft, Executive Director, Feeding Georgia.
Since its inception in 2014, the Georgia Accounting Food Fight has collectively raised $1,812,001.79 – the equivalent of 7,248,007 meals for the state's food banks.
