"As an ABDSM Diplomate, I am pleased to offer a higher level of dental sleep medicine to patients with sleep-related breathing disorders," Dr. Poss said.
BRENTWOOD, TN, November 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stephen D. Poss, DDS, has been helping patients in Middle Tennessee get better sleep for more than 20 years. Now, as a newly designated American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) Diplomate, he is even better qualified to help patients get the rest they need for healthier, more productive lives. Dr. Poss recently achieved Diplomate status, which recognizes licensed dentists who have completed the requirements set forth by ABDSM, and includes a rigorous months-long process demonstrating proficient knowledge and treatment of sleep-related breathing disorders that culminates in an intensive examination. This is the third Diplomate Dr. Poss has achieved in dental sleep medicine.
"As an ABDSM Diplomate, I am pleased to offer a higher level of dental sleep medicine to patients with sleep-related breathing disorders," Dr. Poss said. "Achieving the status of Diplomate is the culmination of many months dedicated to this worthwhile pursuit, and will allow me to provide the latest in treatment, particularly for those with sleep disorders who are CPAP-intolerant."
Dr. Poss joins an elite group of more than one thousand sleep medicine dentists across the United States who have earned the Diplomate status, considered the gold standard of care by the sleep medicine community. ABDSM Diplomates like Dr. Poss are especially dedicated to helping patients who do not comply with or tolerate continuous positive airway (CPAP) for their sleep breathing disorders. Dr. Poss has changed many patients' lives – and the lives of their loved ones – using oral appliance therapy and other innovative treatments. Oral appliance therapy treats sleep apnea and snoring by gently stabilizing the jaw and tongue to keep the upper airway open.
Dr. Poss practices comprehensive sleep medicine at his Brentwood, Tenn., and Murfreesboro, Tenn., offices of Sleep Apnea & TMJ Solutions. He is dedicated to helping patients get an accurate diagnosis, including those who have had a sleep study done elsewhere, and customizes treatment plans to each unique individual.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN BOARD OF DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE
Established in 2004, the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) is an independent, nonprofit, self-designated board certifying licensed dentists who treat sleep-related breathing disorders. The ABDSM designates an individual who it certifies as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. The purpose of the ABDSM is to test knowledge and clinical proficiency in dental sleep medicine, which includes oral appliances and upper airway surgery to treat sleep-related breathing disorders such as snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome (UARS) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It does not represent a new specialty of dentistry or medicine, nor does it grant or imply any legal qualification, privilege or license to practice. Rather, it simply recognizes those dentists duly licensed by law who have successfully completed the certification requirements established by the ABDSM.
