Geostrategy.rs Publishes New Expert Report: Dirty Bomb in Ukraine – Fake or Reality?

    BELGRADE, SERBIA, November 04, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The conflict in Ukraine is developing at a high intensity, and there are indications that it could expand and grow into a large direct military conflict between Russia and NATO. "While Officials from both sides made many contradictory statements regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons, we analyzed media publications and conducted an expert survey on the topic," - shares Dragana Trifkovic, founder of the Center for Geostrategic Studies.

Ukraine has accused Russia of making preparations for the use of nuclear weapons. Russian officials reject such claims emphasizing that their intelligence services have obtained information that Ukraine is preparing a provocation that would activate a "dirty bomb" to accuse Russia of it.

While US President Joseph Biden warned that Russia's use of nuclear weapons would be an "extremely serious mistake", thereby accepting Ukraine's claims, the Pentagon has confirmed that it does not see any indications that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons.

At the Valdai Club plenary session, Vladimir Putin denied Russia was fueling nuclear tensions and countered Western warnings that Moscow may be planning to detonate a "dirty bomb" in Ukraine in a false flag operation, saying he saw no "point" in a nuclear strike. Russian officials are adamant that Russia can use nuclear weapons only in accordance with its military defense strategy, which includes this measure only in the event of an attack on Russia or an existential threat to this country.

Russian media reported that "Specialists from the Ukrainian enterprise 'Yuzhmash' [a Ukrainian missile manufacturer] have prepared a dummy rocket, which is planned to be filled with radioactive material, and then allegedly shot down over the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and announce the launch of a nuclear charge by the Russian armed forces". The source of this information is Russian Minister of Defence Shoigu who passed it to his colleagues including those from Great Britain, India, China, the USA, Turkey, and France.

Center for Geostrategic Studies applied to experts with only one question: "Is the threat real or is it a part of political wartime rhetoric?" Most of them stated that the appearance of Dirty Bomb in public discussions confirms the rise of the degree of escalation. Russia's initiative of informing colleagues with intelligence data was rated positively.
