John F. McDonald is the Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences and Founding Director of the Integrated Cancer Research Center at Georgia Institute of Technology. From 1999 to 2023, he served as Chief Scientific Officer of the Ovarian Cancer Institute (Atlanta).
He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, and completed post-doctoral work at UC San Diego and Columbia University's Cancer Research Center. He held several academic positions, including Head of the Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia, Chair of Georgia Tech's School of Biological Sciences, and Associate Dean for Biology Program Development at Georgia Tech's College of Sciences.
Dr. McDonald is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications, editor of three books, and co-author of the genetics textbook The Science of Genetics.
