MIAMI, FL, October 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Despite the many struggles with higher level mathematics in school, Gavriel Dardashti had managed to successfully apply advanced methods of calculus in both business and bioavailability factors involving holistic medicine. After discovering that many of his peers who had excelled in mathematics courses could not apply these methods, Gavriel began to question why he lacked the aptitude to excel when it came to school. A possible solution lies in the field of neuroscience.
The limbic system offers a person the ability to enhance learning through emotional responses. Having said that, it is inferred that a person's ability to learn will significantly increase if they feel strongly about the material. So how do we get kids to feel strongly about math?
The answer lies in helping kids develop an emotional connection to the material at hand. After volunteering at an autism school, teaching in the Broward County Schoo District, and most recently tutoring foster children, Gavriel learnt that developing an emotional connection to learning would differ from child to child. For kids having dreams of a profession that would require applied mathematics this is easy. For kids who seek a non math based career this can be a little tricky.
Many children like the idea of developing the skills needed to start their own business. Having said that, it is important to inform them of the many applications of mathematics in business. In some instances, the emotional connection may not necessarily have anything to do with the math itself but the connection between the teacher and student. Using dialogue that incorporates various tones of voice can appeal to the child as well. Tones give the kids hope that they can learn the material. Tones that express a sense of compassion when the students are struggling with the material. Most importantly, a tone of voice that expresses enthusiasm when the child gets performs task correctly, is invaluable.
This emotional connection grows even stronger in the case of foster children. Many of these kids feel hopeless and lost and offering them a sense of passion will help them develop confidence.
Doctor Ashok Bharucha, a psychiatrist who completed his resident training at McLean Hospital of the Harvard Medical School supports the basic hypothesis of this approach.
