/24-7PressRelease/ - MANCHESTER, UK, June 25, 2008 - The 35,000 mile, the 07-08 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race reaches a spectacular finale on 5th July, 2008 in Liverpool when 10 magnificent, 68' yachts sprint up the River Mersey in full sail. LateRooms.com, the discount hotel specialists, outline some of the highlights and provide accommodation suggestions on the best deals in Liverpool for people wanting to experience this fabulous event.
The 2007-2008 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race set sail from Liverpool 9 months ago on September 16th 2007. Thousands of people are expected to line the banks of the Mersey to cheer the return of the 10 competing yachts when they return on 5th July.
At approximately 9.00am, the boats will race in a 'morning dash' from the Mersey Bar at the mouth of the Mersey estuary to the Duke's Mast at the South side of the Albert Dock, where they should arrive between 10.30 - 11.00am. Midday sees the fleet parade past the Duke's Mast before entering the Canning Half Tide Lock and there will be a waterfront prize-giving at 3.30pm at the Albert Docks.
For those unable to make the race itself, the yachts will be moored in the Albert Docks for viewings until the morning of the 7th July with the Clipper fleet finally departing at 3pm on the 7th via the Canning Tide Half Lock.
The Clipper Race is the world's only non-professional, round-the-world boat race - consisting of 10 boats representing 10 countries and territories - each named after its corresponding region. Teams include Liverpool 08, Jamaica, New York and Uniquely Singapore. These state-of-the-art yachts, spanning 68 foot each in length , should inspire awe in even the most 'un-nautical' of visitors.
