Thunder Bay, a port city of more than 120,000 on the Ontario northwestern shore of Lake Superior, has more than 220 sworn officers on the street working three daily shifts: day, night and a midday shift that overlaps the other two. These officers cover a very large metropolitan area of 700 square kilometres (approximately 270 square miles). With a violent crime rate and on-duty officers often spread out widely, it's vital to closely track Thunder Bay's officers and know who is on active duty at all times.
