/24-7PressRelease/ - LARCHMONT, NY, September 18, 2008 - Clarke Auction will open the 2008 Fall Season with an exceptional sale of fresh-to-market antiques, midcentury modern, fine art and bronzes, and decorative pieces from estates in Manhattan, New Jersey, Brooklyn Heights, Katonah, and Scarsdale.
The unique includes four Period Marble Neoclassical Busts accompanied by a tri-columned marble pedestal in addition to a signed R.W. Sievier c.1820 marble portrait bust.
The same estate provided a circa 1800 trumeau mirror topped by an oil painting, possibly English, of a pair of white children held aloft by four black children, all sympathetically portrayed. Empire bronzes, a blackamoor-based console, an Asian carved wooden cat and fat baby, and a large group of 19th C. Italian plaster intaglios are among many items from this collection.
Art bronzes include a depiction of a North African boy and horse by Dubucand, a pair of dogs by PJ Mene, a rare 1849 bronze by Irish sculptor JH Foley, an unusual Francis of Assisi, two Art Nouveau female busts by Giuseppe Renda, a signed bronze bear, and Vienna bronzes among others.
Antique furniture highlights are a decorative bronze mounted Boulle table, a Chinoiserie decorated tilt top table, a 19th C. inlaid demilune table, a Victorian backgammon table, a Regency sewing table, a 19th C. Queen Anne style highboy, a Stickley arts and crafts drop front oak secretary and a twin pedestal 19th C. sideboard.
Midcentury and decorative modern includes a pair of Tommi Parzinger club chairs, Paco Rabanne space curtain, a Jens Risom side table, a marble Pietre Dure table top, a Rose Cabat vase, a 36" diameter natural antler chandelier and many unidentified or anonymous pieces.
Fine art includes a highly decorative, a signed early 19th C. Fete Galante painting with many figures and dogs in an heavy carved frame; an HW Kurlander architectural oil; a collection of oils of New York scenes from the 1950's, a Kamil Kubik pastel of a boys choir and other pieces.
Sterling includes pieces from Tiffany, Caldwell and Buccellati.
