With a specialization in marketing, Martella Gastel has co-owned Dorothy's Candies with her husband, Robert, for over five years. In addition to managing the daily operations of the business, Martella also prepares company brochures and brainstorms new product ideas. Prior to establishing Dorothy's Candies, Martella worked in healthcare and information technology marketing where she was the recipient of several awards for public relations and marketing excellence. Martella also spent time as a reporter where she garnered eight Associated Press Awards. In the future, Ms. Gastel intends to expand the enterprise and implement even smoother transitions to run the business.

Ms. Gastel studied for her MSJ (Master's Degree in Journalism) at West Virginia University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Point Park University and another post-baccalaureate certificate in Non-Fiction Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a member of the National Journalism Honor Society and currently serves as secretary of the Regional Chamber of Commerce in the McKeensport area. She volunteers as a Sunday school teacher and is the director of evangelism at a local church.
