CALGARY, AB, September 25, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- This spring, the Calgary Addictions Summit included food addiction among the areas to be addressed in the revamping of addiction services.
In February 2008, Dr. Brian Cramm of the Alberta Eating Disorders Program opened the inaugural Canadian Eating Disorders Association Conference with his key note speech on Food Addiction.
University of Florida brain researcher Dr. Mark Gold says his studies reveal that compulsive eaters have similar brain scan results to other addicts.
Counselor Nancy Anderson Dolan, talks of addictive eating patterns. She herself was in the grip of a brutal addiction to food for 27 years. It saw her at 300lbs, suicidally depressed, isolated, obsessed and utterly unable to stop eating huge amounts of food.
She says "Obesity and eating disorders have reached epidemic proportions because our culture literally trains people into addictive eating patterns. We can prevent and reverse these, but it is not just about food and exercise. It takes changing the patterns of thinking and feeling as well."
She should know she's done it. Today, 150lbs lighter, she teaches others how to do it. Encouraged by the events of this year, Anderson Dolans' company WiseHeart Wellness Services (www.WiseHeartWeightMastery.com) is presenting a free full day workshop "Ending Addictive Eating Patterns" open to anyone with a professional or personal interest in this issue.
It will be held on Sunday October 19th from 10am to 3pm at Sloan Square, 5920 1A Street SW. Calgary, AB. People must pre-register at [email protected] to attend.
