Cambridge Who's Who Names Laura M. Cooney Professional of the Year in Word Language Instruction

    LEBANON, NH, October 24, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laura M. Cooney, French and Spanish Teacher at Lebanon Junior High School, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in World Language Instruction. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

Mrs. Cooney began her career in education in 1968 after receiving her Bachelor of Arts in French from River College. She first taught at Hollis High School for one year before moving on to teach at Mascoma High School for four years (from 1969-1973). Since 1981, she has been teaching French and Spanish at Lebanon Junior High. In addition, Mrs. Cooney has been Lebanon Junior High School's spelling bee pronouncer since 1998 and has coached students in the school's yearly all-subject "Quiz Bowl" competition five times. Mrs. Cooney completed the NEA New Hampshire Mentoring Program in 2005, joined New Hampshire Celebrates Wellness in 1996, and is the school's representative to the District Wellness Committee. She is a member of the New Hampshire Association of World Language Teachers and was a member of the Lebanon Community Chorus for 10 years and is a lifetime member of the Cooking Club of America.
