Del Mar Dentist Makes Implants Easier with New Software

    SAN DIEGO AND DEL MAR, CA, April 08, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Edward Farajzadeh introduced new software to his practice in early April that aids in determining bone volume for Del Mar dental implants patients.

The new software provides greater, more detailed information from Computed Axial Tomography scans- more commonly referred to as CAT scans.

"This software will assist us in evaluating CAT scans of the jaws to determine how much bone volume patients have," said Dr. Farajzadeh, a Del Mar dentist. "It is able to give us a bit more detail as to what we are interpreting."

Bone volume is important in dental implant procedures because when bone volume levels are low, it indicates that a bone augmentation procedure may be required prior to placing the implant. Bone augmentation involves harvesting bone from other areas of the patient's body or using cadaver or synthetic bone to build up volume and strengthen the area so it can successfully support a dental implant.

Farajzadeh has a mobile CAT scan service, come to the office as needed to perform CAT scans on patients in need of dental implants. He utilizes this service in about 50 percent of his dental implant cases that involve complicated procedures, he said. Prior to the software purchase, he had to use other companies' Web sites and software to interpret the data. Now that can be done more efficiently in his office.

"This software plays an integral role in how we approach dental implants for each individual patient," Farajzadeh said. "It helps us to determine if we need to add bone to the area and enables us to plan the implant procedure more precisely."

Farajzadeh opted for the new software because he recently began working with a new company that offered it.

"It makes my life a little bit easier," he said. "It streamlines processes."

The software also brings added convenience for Farajzadeh's patients. They don't have to be referred to another office for their CAT scans, and the software provides the opportunity to instantly evaluate the scans once they are completed.
